Installment Two - June 15, 2003
Happy Father's Day!

[WRL] The trip began as everyone awoke at the lofty 6:00 wake up call. Donuts awaited the travelers when they arrived at the church. The parents waved goodbye as they chuckled happily to themselves at the fact that they wouldn't have to put up with their kids for two weeks. At 7:00, we departed and began the long drive for the day. Most of the boys played video games on the long drive. We stopped for our first rest area lunch near Indianapolis around 2:00 and we had some amazing cold cut sandwiches. We enjoyed the animated discussion of the truckers on the CB radios, which helped the adult leaders avoid highway problems. Unfortunately, Mr V's CB broke, but he got a replacement in St. Louis.

We continued to drive until around 5:00 and had dinner on a floating barge on the Mississippi River, which served anything from Icees to hot wings. We got to take a tour of the St. Louis Arch. When we got to the visitor center, we had a ten minute wait until we boarded the capsules which took us up, as they traveled up the arch at ~30 mph. Nobody died at the shear appearance of this terrifying, ultra-fast, Cedar-Point-like ride, However, the adults are a different story. We took some great pictures on top of the arch of us, not the chicks, or lack thereof. We finally arrived at the campground where we set up tents, had cracker barrel, and went to bed. Everyone was in bed by 10:30.
