Installment Five - June 18, 2003 |
| [The Titanic: WRL]
As crew 3 awoke at a grueling five a.m., the rest of the crews were fast asleep.
But what was crew 3 doing, you ask? Well, this crew woke up to make Egg McMuffins.
Brad D. and Brian G. cooked the sausage, and Weston L. and Matt P. browned the buns
and fried the eggs. The muffins turned out great, and we packed up to leave. Down the
road at Wolf Pass, the troop had a snow ball fight and took pictures to create custom
postcards. We drove for a little bit, only to end up in Durango, Colorado. We made
wrap-ups for lunch and headed down to the waterfront for a whitewater rafting
experience. Some fell overboard, while others were splashed extensively. However, no
one was hurt. After the trip ended, the crews were permitted to walk around Durango,
buy souvenirs at the shops, and even have sarsaparilla.
We drove about twenty minutes to the Bar D Chuckwagon, the highlight of the trip. After an amazing dinner of either steak, chicken, beef, or a combo, the band [the Bar D Wranglers] began to play. The quartet included two guitars, an upright bass and a fiddle. They played for about an hour and a half, including classic cowboy songs like "Ghost Riders in the Sky" and "That's How the Yodel was Born." They also played songs such as "Boil the Cabbage" and "Orange Blossom Special" and let me tell you: the Nitty G ritty Dirt Band has nothing on the Bar D Wranglers. Some other songs were comedies such as "Rindercella" and "I'm My Own Grandpa." They closed the set with "God Bless the USA," a troop favorite, and we sang along. Since the one and a half hour set wasn't enough, some picked up a CD or, in some cases, the six CD box set. We drove back to camp and set up tents, and then went to bed. Memorable Quotes

We are now going on to our second day in Durango, Colorado, where we are taking a round trip train ride on the Durango to Silverton narrow-gauge railroad (with just a small 1000 ft vertical hike up the Needle Creek Trail into Weminuche Wilderness for a lunch break). Not much driving here.
